Beautiful & Warm Coat for Winter Adventures in Wisconsin

When traveling (or living) in the Midwest in winter, a warm coat is always a must – bonus points if it looks nice and not marshmallow-like! This swing coat from my friends over at ModCloth fits the bill for both. And how gorgeous is that burnt orange color?

I had originally pictured wearing this coat against a beautiful backdrop of fall foliage… however, this is Wisconsin, where Mother Nature does whatever she darn well pleases! So, we’ve skipped fall and gone straight into winter!

It’s been snowing and in the 20s (Fahrenheit) this last week, but this lovely swing coat (from ModCloth, but made by Collectif) has kept me toasty. I can’t get over how warm and heavy it is. This beauty has kept me warm even here in Wisconsin!

I absolutely LOVE its hood as well. I have a similar coat that isn’t quite as heavy or nice as this one… and I had complained about how that coat’s hood never stayed up when it was windy. However, with this coat… the hood is heavy enough to withstand a blustery day here in the Midwest.

It is a super large hood. though. So, sometimes it comes down so far I can’t even see!

I am all for a coat that I can also twirl in. These photos required minimal twirling effort too!

Another selling point for me is the deep pockets on this coat. I can comfortably fit my hands in them, and any other goodies I may want… such as a wallet or cellphone.

The size chart is also accurate for this coat. Collectif is located in the UK, so their sizes are all UK. I have a cape coat from Collectif (see it here), that I had ordered in a size 10… so, I figured a size 10 would work well in this coat too. And it did! However, if you’re planning to wear some REALLY bulky items under this coat, you may want to size up. I’m wearing a sweater and a scarf under it. But if I was wearing a super thick sweatshirt, for example, it would be a tight fit.

My only complaint about this coat is that it’s been a real bugger to get the wrinkles out of it… thanks to the packaging it came in.

Oh, and I have to show off what I’m wearing under this coat! I have this sweater in the dinosaur print and am so in love it… I wanted it in the apple too. It fits just as perfectly and it’s so comfortable. I like to wear an extra layer under it too, especially when it’s been as cold as it has been!

The weather isn’t supposed to get any better around here either. It sounds like we’ll be breaking records next week for coldness and snow. But with cute winter gear like this… I say bring it on!

  1. Hello! The cut of the jacket is very good, but the fabric used is not thick enough, thermal insulation would also be good. The coat is not long enough, it would be much nicer if it reached the floor and had a fur trim.

  2. This coat is so stunning, Lindsey! I am very into statement coats and need a red one. I am not surprised it’s snowing there. It has been pretty cold in the south too.

  3. You look so cute in the snow! I love the red coat, it really pops against the snowy backdrop and is a great style and colour on you!

It’s a little crazy to see you in the snow when it’s so hot here – it’s more like summer than spring and we have so many bushfires right now 🙁

Hope that you had a great weekend! We had our annual family photo with Santa for our Christmas cards on Saturday and then a playdate in the park on Sunday 🙂

  4. I just love this coat Lindsey, but I have to admit I am not missing the snow here in Arizona. I did bring a couple of my winter like jackets though when we moved. And I’ve actually worn a couple of them in the mornings. It’s kind of like winter in the mornings where it’ll be about 40 or 50 degrees. Luckily no snow though.
    XOXO
