My Experience Ordering Inexpensive Evening Gowns Online

Ordering inexpensive evening gowns online can be a bit of a gamble. You never know for sure if the photos on the website will live up to their real-life counterparts! We’ve all seen the pictures and heard the stories of evening gowns from overseas vendors looking cheap and falling apart at the seams.

For this post, I’ll take a look at my personal experience ordering 2 inexpensive evening gowns from online store Ever-Pretty.

Now, I’ve ordered dresses from them before, and I had a good experience. Evening dresses are usually one of those things, though, that I always thought were more of a “you get what you pay for” scenario. Therefore, I was always willing to shell out the bigger bucks if I needed a fancy dress for an event. (Kind of like outerwear, and my past experience ordering that from an inexpensive online retailer. Better to pay a little more for it!) 

So, needless to say, I was fully expecting this post to be more of an “Aha! The photos do not live up the real thing!” Especially since both of these dresses are hovering around $50 USD for their price.

Dress #1 Floor Length Lace Mermaid Style Gown from Ever-Pretty

Can you believe that that dress above is $50?! Frankly, I think it looks like it’s at least a $150 dress! 

This first mermaid style evening gown honestly looks better in person than it does on the website. I was completely shocked by how well it fit, and the quality of this dress. It was true to size and felt SO good to put on.  It’s a little bit stretchy and super comfy. Sometimes dresses like this can be picky and scratchy, but that is not the case at all with this one. 

It’s lined to mid-thigh, which looks fantastic, in my opinion. The bust is also padded, so you don’t have to wear a bra unless you want to. (I am wearing a bra here, though. I never feel comfortable going sans bra!)

I can’t get over what a steal this dress is!

Dress #2 Sequin, Floral Print, Fishtail Tulle Dress

This dress was an even bigger surprise for me. I really thought this tulle dress would look cheap… as I’ve seen some online stores’ versions of similar dresses, and they looked awful in person.

However, this dress was, again, even better in person than the photos on the website showed. It’s not as fitted as the other dress, though. So, I paired one of my belts with it to give it a little more shape. 

This one was, again, true to size. It’s also not picky or scratchy. I feel so glamorous in this dress!

Honestly, I was planning to just take photos of this dress for the purpose of this post, and then put it for sale in my Poshmark closet. However, now I don’t want to part with it! I’m thinking I’ll wear it for my birthday in a couple of weeks. My husband is taking me to a fancy dinner and then to the Phantom of the Opera. I might be a bit over-dressed for it in an evening gown… but hey, it’s my birthday! And I’ll wear a tulle evening gown if I want!
