Guys! I did it! I finally invested in some petticoats…and I am in love. Why didn’t I try these babies sooner? They’re so fun!

Around 7 months ago I did a post with this dress and wondered if it wouldn’t benefit from a petticoat. Some folks let me know petticoats weren’t for them (and that’s cool too, they are an acquired taste!), and some responded by shouting, “Yes! Just get the petticoat!” It clearly took me a little while to make a decision, haha. But, I had received an Amazon gift card from my stepmom in law, Lori, (thank you!) for Christmas, and I knew exactly what a portion of it was going to be going towards!

The petticoats I went with weren’t too pricey. This one pictured above was just under $15. I wasn’t sure how often I would use them, or if I would even like wearing them…so, I didn’t want to get anything too expensive. And actually, I’m really impressed with this petticoat for the price! It is the perfect amount of volume and it’s super comfortable. And I really put the comfort level to the test this weekend! The day I wore it the temperatures hit well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit! So, basically I was sweating buckets anytime I stepped outside. And the petticoat wasn’t scratchy or terribly clingy. I’m assuming in normal weather it will be absolutely perfect!

However, I haven’t had it long enough to know how well it’ll hold up over time, but I’ll certainly update after I get a few more months of use under my belt! And there will be a lot of use in the future! I’m sorry to say, but just about every dress I own that could probably work with a petticoat is going to end up getting featured on here again, but with a petticoat. Haha. They just make an outfit look SO different, in my opinion.

Are you a petticoat person? And if so, what are some brands that you like? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I love the dress both ways, with and without! I had a petticoat under my wedding dress, and I loved how it looked! 🙂

  2. Love the polka dot dress, looks so vintage! Perfect for spring and summer! Have a great day gorgeous 🙂

  3. The petticoat really makes the dress stand out so well, Lindsey! My step mom (the 60’s model on my blog) is going to kill me. She used to have a bunch of these from her square dancing days, and I suggested getting rid of them—what was I thinking?

    1. Oh no! Haha! Oh well..fortunately, if she does decide to invest in more, there are plenty of options out there! 🙂 And thank you so much, Jodie!

  4. Ohh girl don’t get me started. I have a couple of these cheaper pettis and they work fine, though can be noisy as you move (haha). If you start to love the petticoat look and get hooked like me, consider investing in higher priced brands such as Malco Modes. Malco Modes are New Jersey based and have been doing this for years. I like them because they have so many different styles – length, volume, colors, etc. They are all super soft and very well made. They last forever. I have short ones, long ones, subtle and poofy from them. I love the variety they offer.

I have yet to get a Vivien of Hollaway brand yet but they look luxurious as well and I want to try them out. Banned Apparel also makes some that look lovely. Hell Bunny make decent ones, they’re not as soft as Malco Modes, but they’re decently priced and ModCloth sells them from time to time. They’re a good next step petti 😉

    1. Oooh, I had not heard of Malco Modes. I have heard of Vivien of Hollaway and Hell Bunny, though. I’ll have to check them out once I’m ready for the next step! Thanks for all the great advice! 🙂

  5. This outfit is lovely, dear Lindsey, I love polka dots and petticoats! So nice that your stepmom gave you an Amazon voucher and you bought the lovely petticoat! I imagine how you felt with the heat, but I think during fall the petticoat will be even more beautiful – it’s a feminine item, and you look amazing! Hope you have a beautiful day!

  6. Good for you! I adore petticoats and have three. They flare skirts out in the most feminine way. You look terrific here.

    1. Aw, thank you! And they certainly do a good job of flaring out skirts and dresses. I can’t wait to wear it again this weekend! 🙂
