Zendaya’s Latest Look Has Fans Saying Something They Almost Never Say: “This Might Be a Miss”

The actress still looked stunning at CinemaCon, but the outfit itself had people making some very specific comparisons.

It takes a lot for Zendaya to miss on a red carpet. She’s built a reputation for being almost untouchable when it comes to fashion, so when people start hesitating, you know something unusual is happening.

That’s what went down at CinemaCon on Tuesday in Las Vegas, where Zendaya stepped out alongside Timothée Chalamet to promote Dune: Part Three. The look featured a fitted, nude-toned blazer and matching skirt with dramatic shoulders and a slightly distressed, almost “aged” finish.

On paper, it sounds very on-brand for the Dune aesthetic. In photos… people had thoughts.

“A Rare Miss”—According to Fans

Some fans kept it simple:

“Not even Zendaya can rescue this look. A rare misstep.”

Others were a little more… creative.

“When you sleep over at a friend’s house but they don’t give you a blanket so you try to stay warm by wrapping yourself in tortillas.”

“It looks like a loaf of bread.”

“Chamois chic. Straight from the car wash and on the red carpet by 6.”

And yes, multiple people made comparisons that leaned straight into horror-movie territory (you weren’t the only one who went there).

But Not Everyone Hated It

To be fair, this wasn’t a total pile-on.

A few people pointed out that the look actually does fit the vibe of Dune; it’s a little otherworldly, and not exactly meant to be “pretty” in a traditional sense. I can see where they were going with this one.

“It’s not my favorite look on her but it fits the theme of the movie.”

And even critics kept circling back to the same point: Zendaya still looks good. The outfit might be questionable, but she’s not.

When High Fashion Gets… Weird

This is kind of the interesting part. Red carpet fashion has been drifting more toward statement pieces lately—things that spark conversation (ehem, like this), and maybe even confuse people a little.

And this look did exactly that.

It got people talking in a way that another perfectly tailored, pretty gown probably wouldn’t have.

And if Zendaya can have a “maybe not” fashion moment and still walk away looking polished, it kind of proves the point: even the most consistent style icons experiment—and sometimes that means leaning into something a little strange.

Would most people wear this? Absolutely not. Will it be remembered? Yeah… probably for a while.

If you’re in the mood for more celebrity fashion discourse, Zendaya’s wax figure had fans asking some pretty blunt questions, and Nicole Kidman’s Oscars look sparked a whole separate conversation online.
