My Most Popular & Least Popular Blog Posts of 2016

So, 2016 was quite the year! From moving from New Jersey back to Wisconsin and then to Tokyo and then Sydney…phew! It was busy, to say the least, haha. But I loved every minute of it, and I was very grateful to have this blog to keep track of all the fun adventures.

And I did a post last year on my favorite posts of the year, but I don’t know if I would be able to narrow it down to just 10 favorite posts this year. Haha. So, I figured I would let the numbers do the talking. (And I really enjoyed reading a similar post by Lauren of Grace Rock Kelly Roll a while back!)

This will be a list of the posts that had the most page views in 2016, and I’m also going to share my least popular ones. (3 least popular & 10 for the most popular.) I’m only going to be including the posts I personally wrote on this blog, and I’m not limiting to when it was published…some of these posts were some of my very first posts on this blog that just took off in the year 2016! Needless to say, it was really fun to put this post together because it’s crazy how a post that didn’t initially do well suddenly explodes and becomes the most read post on your entire blog!

So, without further ado, here’s my popularity list of 2016, starting with the least viewed.

Least Popular Posts of 2016

3.) Kata Tjuta Valley of the Winds

Valley of the winds

Ok, granted, I didn’t publish this one all that long ago. But the numbers don’t lie, and this is currently one of the least viewed posts on the blog as of the end of the year!

2.) Nijo Castle & The Gold Pavilion in Kyoto

I take full responsibility for this post not doing very well – I did NOT sell this one well at all…and I definitely could’ve thought of a catchier title. Oops! But seeing a temple completely covered in gold leaf + a samurai-proof castle was pretty darn cool!

1.) Sculptures by the Sea & Bondi Beach

And the least viewed post of the year goes to “Sculptures by the Sea & Bondi Beach!” Again, probably could’ve sold this one a bit better…but, you can’t win them all! But I swear this one had some cool photos if anyone is interested in helping this post get off the bottom of the list, haha. 😉

10.) Getting Personal

This is actually the most popular post on my blog ever, and I’m glad it’s gotten so many views! This is essentially the story of how this blog started, and how my husband and I began this weird nomadic lifestyle.

9.) Living in a Winter Wonderland

ModCloth skirt & shoes

Oooh, the day after snowstorms make for such fun photos! And the sweater in this post is actually from high school, haha. Funny how some things last the test of time!

8.) A Windy Day Dress

I would actually say this outfit is my most worn outfit of 2016. I LOVED it. And I’m so glad everyone else did too, apparently! Haha.

7.) Hello Kitty

I did not expect to see this post on here, as this was one of my very first blog posts on Have Clothes, Will Travel. It’s funny how through social media and Google.. somethings just take off!

6.) Hanging On

I’m going to guess this one did so well because I was talking about an amazing pumpkin cupcake recipe that Mona of Curls & Cakes had shared! Those cupcakes were so yummy!

5.) Birthday Ensemble

birthday dress

I really am a bit shocked this one did as well as it did. This wasn’t one of my favorite outfits, in retrospect, by any means – but hey, I guess a little crazy pattern mixing was just what people were looking for!

4.) My Experience With Novalash Eyelash Extensions

This post has been taking off like CRAZY the past couple weeks! I’m guessing everyone has been looking into getting eyelash extension for the holidays!

3.) We’re Moving Across the World

We're moving!

Not surprisingly, our big announcement of moving to Tokyo and then Sydney did pretty well this year. This was probably my favorite post of the whole year….I had honestly been dreaming of writing this one for years!

2.) Dream Closet Wishlist

Vintage 1950 Cocktail Dress: millstreetvintage

So, there must be a lot of people out there who also dream of poofy vintage dresses, tulle skirts & loads of shoes from ModCloth! Haha.

1.) 10 Quirky Things To Do in New Orleans

Drum roll, please! The most popular post of 2016 was “10 Quirky Things to do in New Orleans!” This post came out of nowhere, haha. I think it had about 2 page views when I initially published it, but it has taken off like wildfire over the past couple months! I’m excited people are finding this list so useful!

Were there any posts on this list that surprised you? (I was most shocked by #2 on the most popular list, to be honest.) Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hmmm… I actually like the least popular ones. Think you did a great job at them.
On the other side I have not read most of your popular ones, as I think we connected a little later in the year.
But loved going through them. Hope to read more such awesome posts!

  2. This is a really cool idea to do! I think it’s awesome that you included the least popular ones too. Most people wouldn’t. Snow photos leads end up being my favorite, even though I hate the cold that goes with them lol. The snow makes such a pretty backdrop. I have so much catching up to do. I took a little break over Christmas, but I’ll be catching up today!

    1. So glad you enjoyed the post, Amanda! I figured it would be interesting to show the least popular ones too. Haha I do love my snow pics too…but oh yes, the cold is not a good time! And I hope you enjoyed your Christmas! I took a little break as well over the holiday. 🙂

  3. Retrospectives are so revealing. This one shows how vibrant your blog is and how high the quality of content is. Loved these posts. Keep up the good work. We readers are fascinated by your travelling lifestyle and, honestly, live a little vicariously through you. I hope 2017 is wonderful for you. Happy New Year, Lindsey!

  4. Dear Lindsey, I am also amazed by the number 2, but not surprised at all… I had a blog (same name, another platform) where I posted quite a lot, but travelling and doing things – it means, living – started to prevent me to post like before. So I started to post once a week and last July, I decided to post twice a week – one outfit’s post and one motivational words’ post. And which one always got more attention? Clothes and shoes, of course. I am not complaining, nooo, I am very glad that people enjoy seeing my pictures, but that is it, clothes will always get more attention than ideas, hearts and stories, that is it. I love your blog and am very very glad to have known you this year; but I must say that maybe the least popular posts were not because you didn’t sell them, like you said, but in my case, and I hope you don’t mind, I tend to read one or 2 posts a week (per blogger), because otherwise we would live “inside” the computer 🙂 Hope you don’t mind, just being sincere and do believe me, I really love your posts! It’s just that sometimes time flies! Dear Lindsey, I hope you are having a great time and that you have a fantastic 2017!!!! So glad to get to know you!

    1. Oh yes, style posts are generally always the popular ones. But it does warm my heart that a travel post was number one. 🙂 I’m so happy you enjoy my blog! I’m very grateful to have known you this year as well. And oh gosh, I don’t expect you to read all my posts. 🙂 I was posting daily for a while – that’s a ton of content to keep up on. I’m grateful you take the time to read even one post! 🙂 I hope you have a fabulous 2017 too, Denise! Happy New Year!

  5. Hi Lindsey,
I love your roundup and how honest you are about the posts that did not do well. I like reading your blog and all your posts not because of its title but the content. I like the way you write, the photos and that you are normal.;-) it is a real pleasure to visit your blog and I look forward to continue visiting in 2017!

Wishing you a happy New Year!
    Hugs,
    Miri

    1. Aw, thank you, Miri. I’m so happy you enjoy my content! I’m so glad to have found your blog! Haha, and you’re the first person in a long time to consider me normal. Haha. 😉 Looking forward to visiting your blog in 2017 as well! Happy New Year!
