Victoria Beckham Says Harper Beckham Once Pitched Her a Skincare Brand — and a Perm

Beckham said Harper came prepared with PowerPoints after struggling with her skin and wanting to help others with acne-prone skin.

Victoria Beckham may have another beauty founder in the family.

On the May 5 episode of “Aspire with Emma Grede,” Beckham said her daughter, Harper Beckham, once came to her with a PowerPoint presentation for a skincare brand after struggling with her own skin. She also had a second presentation ready for something slightly less business-minded: why she should be allowed to get a perm.

Harper Beckham Wanted to Create Something for Acne-Prone Skin

Beckham said Harper came to her two or three years ago while she was “really struggling with her skin.”

“She used to have beautiful skin, but then, like all young girls, she was enticed by certain beauty brands, and she was putting a lot of product on her face,” Beckham said.

According to Beckham, the products were not suitable for Harper’s skin, and things got bad enough that she ended up seeing a dermatologist.

Beckham said she could relate because she had dealt with acne at several points in her own life.

“I suffered with child acne, teenage acne, adult acne,” Beckham said. “Every acne under the sun — I’ve been there.”

That shared experience seemed to be part of why Harper’s idea landed with her.

She Came Prepared With Two PowerPoint Presentations

Harper apparently did not bring the skincare idea up casually. She came prepared.

“She said, ‘I really want to create a brand because I know what I want, what I can’t find, and I don’t want other people to have to go through what I have been through,’” Beckham said.

Then Beckham explained that Harper had made two PowerPoint presentations. One was for the skincare brand she wanted to create. The other was “a reason as to why I should let her have a perm.”

Emma Grede immediately asked the obvious question: “Please tell me you only greenlit one of those presentations.”

“We put the perm conversation to one side,” Beckham said.

Victoria Beckham Said Harper Had a Real Point of View

Beckham said the skincare idea was “very sweet” because Harper had a genuine reason behind it.

“She really did have a point of view,” Beckham said. “She didn’t want other people to struggle because she saw what she had done with her skin.”

Beckham also said Harper has been interested in beauty for years.

“Ever since she was tiny, she sat on my lap,” Beckham said. “She loves products, she loves formulas.”

She added that Harper has even helped her choose colors while working on palettes.

Harper Beckham May Eventually Launch the Brand

Grede asked Beckham directly whether Harper is going to launch a brand.

“I think she probably will,” Beckham said.

She noted that Harper is still in school and studying for her GCSEs, but said beauty is Harper’s passion.

“At the same time, she’s still at school,” Beckham said. “But that is her passion. That is what she wants to do.”

Beckham also made it clear that if Harper does pursue it, she wants to support her without pushing her.

“If I can support her dreams and her passions like I can the other kids, I want to do that,” Beckham said. “I think there’s a difference between supporting, as opposed to pushing.”

Victoria Beckham Knows the Acne Struggle Personally

Part of what makes the story interesting is that Beckham did not treat Harper’s skin struggles like a tiny teen inconvenience.

She said she had been through similar issues herself, which is probably why Harper’s pitch did not sound random to her.

“I was so interested to hear her reason why,” Beckham said. “Why does she want to do this? And she’d been through such a journey herself with her skin, and I could really relate to that.”

For all the famous-family gloss around the story, the actual pitch was pretty practical: Harper had a skin problem, could not find exactly what she wanted, and thought other people might be dealing with the same thing.

The perm, however, remains tabled.
