These are the shoes you should wear, according to your zodiac sign
These playful pairings might sound familiar to anyone who keeps buying the same kind of shoes.

My wide feet and bunion have a lot more influence over my shoe purchases than my horoscope. Still, I’m happy to entertain an astrological explanation for why some of us keep buying practical sneakers while others can’t leave an embellished heel alone.
Leanna Spektor, co-founder and style expert at Brand House Direct, has paired each of the 12 zodiac signs with a shoe style based on the personality traits associated with it. Treat her picks as a little wardrobe inspiration, and see how closely yours resembles what’s already in your closet.

Aries (March 21–April 19): Bold ankle boots
Aries gets an ankle boot with enough attitude to make a simple outfit interesting. Spektor’s pick is a sleek style with a low heel, a nod to the sign’s reputation for acting quickly and taking charge.
“It’s assertive without being impractical, just like an Aries,” she says. A cherry-red ankle boot would give jeans and a sweater a little more personality without requiring a towering heel.

Taurus (April 20–May 20): Leather loafers
For Taurus, Spektor chooses a well-made leather loafer, leaning into the sign’s association with comfort and an appreciation for quality. This is the pair you can picture getting pulled out of the closet for years.
A burgundy penny loafer looks good with straight-leg jeans and works with tailored trousers, too. Soft leather and a comfortable fit would make it easier to justify wearing the same pair on repeat.

Gemini (May 21–June 20): Versatile sneakers
Spektor gives Gemini a versatile sneaker to suit the sign’s reputation for changing plans and saying yes to an invitation. A low-profile pair can work with a casual dress just as easily as jeans, which is useful when the day’s plans are still being negotiated in the group chat.
That flexibility is part of why I’ve worn my Keds on so many trips. They’re among the sneakers that have worked for my wide feet and bunion, and I especially like being able to wear them with dresses while sightseeing.

Cancer (June 21–July 22): Soft mules or slip-ons
The homebody of Spektor’s lineup gets a soft mule or a padded slip-on. It fits Cancer’s association with familiarity and comfort, and it’s an easy choice for a slow weekend morning.
“For Cancer, the ideal shoe feels like home,” she says. Look for a soft lining and a shape that stays securely on your foot; constantly gripping a loose shoe with your toes would spoil the cozy appeal.

Leo (July 23–August 22): Statement heels or embellished sneakers
Leo gets the shoes you notice before you notice the rest of the outfit. Spektor suggests statement heels or embellished sneakers for the sign associated with confidence and a love of attention.
A metallic heel would work with a simple black dress, while crystal-covered sneakers would make the same point with jeans. The shoes can do most of the outfit planning here.

Virgo (August 23–September 22): Walking shoes or structured flats
“Virgos research their purchases,” Spektor says. She pairs the detail-oriented sign with structured flats or walking shoes, emphasizing support and quality materials.
That’s a shopping habit I can get behind. In my five-year VIVAIA review, I explain which pairs have held up and how differently the styles fit. Some of the flats have worked well for my wide feet and bunion, but that hasn’t been true of every shoe I’ve tried from the brand.

Libra (September 23–October 22): Block-heel sandals
Spektor matches Libra with block-heel sandals, playing on the sign’s association with beauty and balance. A simple pair in tan or black would be easy to wear with a midi dress for dinner. A low heel with an adjustable ankle strap would be my starting point, especially for an evening that includes some walking.

Scorpio (October 23–November 21): Chelsea boots
Scorpio’s match is a Chelsea boot, chosen for its sleek shape and understated presence. “They don’t need to shout. They just command attention,” Spektor says of the style.
Black leather with a slightly pointed toe would make an easy starting point, though suede gives the boot a softer look. The material also changes the upkeep, as the footwear specialists in my shoe-cleaning guide explain.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21): Outdoor sneakers or trail runners
Sagittarius gets footwear that can handle a detour. Spektor picks trail runners or outdoor sneakers for the sign associated with adventure and a reluctance to sit still.
A grippy sole makes sense for a day that includes an unpaved path. This is the pair for the person who wants to squeeze a hike into the itinerary before lunch.

Capricorn (December 22–January 19): Polished Oxfords
Capricorn’s shoe is a polished Oxford, reflecting the sign’s reputation for ambition and a considered approach to getting dressed. The lace-up style has enough structure to hold its own with tailored trousers. For a more casual outfit, try a black pair with cropped jeans and a sweater.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18): Retro or unconventional sneakers
Aquarius gets the sneaker that makes someone ask, “Where did you find those?” Spektor points to retro shapes and unexpected color combinations for the sign associated with independent thinking.
An orange-and-purple pair or an exaggerated sole would fit the brief. A familiar sneaker in an unusual color could be enough for someone who wants to experiment without changing how they normally dress.

Pisces (February 19–March 20): Strappy sandals or embroidered flats
Spektor pairs Pisces with delicate sandals or embroidered flats, drawing on the sign’s romantic, imaginative reputation. “Pisces are drawn to beauty in the details,” she says.
Tiny embroidered flowers on a flat or delicate hardware on a sandal would fit her description. Worn with plain jeans and a simple top, those details would still stand out.
Spektor has some opinions about the rest of your closet, too. Her list of seven “classic” wardrobe staples she considers outdated includes plain black pumps, and I agreed with more of her picks than I expected.
