Anne Hathaway’s Maternity Style Is Gorgeous, but the Internet’s Reaction Is Even Better
Her joyful The Odyssey press tour has inspired cerulean jokes, honest pregnancy confessions, and a rare wave of supportive comments.

Celebrity comment sections are not exactly known for their kindness, particularly when the conversation turns to a woman’s body.
That is what makes the response to Anne Hathaway’s recent The Odyssey press tour appearances feel so refreshing.
Hathaway announced on June 19 that she and her husband, Adam Shulman, are expecting their third child. The couple already shares two sons, 10-year-old Jonathan and 6-year-old Jack.
Since then, she has made her pregnancy part of the press tour rather than dressing as though it needs to be concealed.
At the movie’s London world premiere on July 6, Hathaway wore a strapless blue Dior gown designed by Jonathan Anderson. She later explained that she first spotted the dress months earlier while reviewing options for The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour.
She loved it but asked for it to be saved for The Odyssey because she suspected it would work particularly well once her bump had grown.
That decision clearly paid off. The flowing blue gown framed her bump beautifully, while floral detailing across the bodice and a bright red lip kept it from feeling like a predictable maternity look.
It also gave The Devil Wears Prada fans an irresistible opening.
“Is that dress CERULEAN?!” one person commented, while others immediately started riffing on Miranda Priestly’s famous explanation of how that particular shade of blue reached the fashion masses.
One red-carpet request set her off laughing
The sweetest moment from the premiere came when photographers asked Hathaway to stand “a little bit sideways,” presumably so they could better photograph her bump.
Hathaway immediately burst out laughing before responding, “When you ask like that, of course.”
The exchange could easily have become uncomfortable. Instead, Hathaway seemed amused by the rather British politeness of the request and happily turned for the cameras.
Most viewers appeared to enjoy the moment just as much.
“Being pregnant at the same time as Anne Hathaway is such a flex in my book,” one commenter wrote.
Several women also used the opportunity to compare Hathaway’s polished maternity look with their own considerably less glamorous experiences.
“She looks amazing pregnant! When I was pregnant I looked like Gollum from Lord of the Rings!” one joked.
Another said she had looked like “a zombie rummaging through the fridge and hugging the toilet,” while someone else compared herself to the trash-covered bag lady from Labyrinth.
People seem happy to see her happy
There were, inevitably, a few people questioning Hathaway’s laughter or suggesting that she was performing for the cameras. This is still the internet, after all.
But other commenters quickly pushed back.
“Or maybe she’s just…happy?” one person responded.
“God forbid she be actually happy,” another added.
It reminded me of the response to Margot Robbie’s recent appearance, when commenters pushed back against unnecessary criticism rather than joining in.
Hathaway looks glamorous, but she also looks like she is genuinely enjoying this stage of her life. Her recent outfits have put her bump front and center, and she appears comfortable having a little fun with all the attention.
Instead of turning her pregnancy into an invitation to scrutinize her body, many commenters are simply celebrating her, swapping stories and making cerulean jokes.
A warm celebrity comment section should not feel this unusual. Still, it is lovely to see.
