“I turn 50 on Sunday, and I can’t help but reflect on the years that shaped me into who I am today,” Reese Witherspoon wrote. “Feeling grateful.” She paired the caption with a carousel of photos from different stages of her life, from her early acting years to where she is now.

A lot of fans immediately focused on how long they have been watching her. More than one person brought up The Man in the Moon, the 1991 film that introduced Witherspoon to a lot of viewers.

“It’s amazing that lil girl in Man in the Moon will turn 50!” one person wrote. Another said they remembered seeing her onscreen early on and thinking “you would be one to watch.”

The comments also turned into a conversation about aging, with plenty of women sharing their own feelings about getting older.

One fan wrote, “You will blink and you will be 65,” calling it one of the truest things they had ever heard. Another commenter said they planned to use Witherspoon’s post in a university class about human behavior and aging, adding that they want students to “not fear it but embrace it.”

Others were more playful. “Welcome to the 50 club,” one person wrote, while another called this decade the “f— it 50s.” Someone else added, “50s are my favorite so far,” saying they feel more secure in who they are now than ever.

There were also plenty of people stuck on the number itself. “50?? Girl, you don’t even look 40,” one wrote, while another joked, “What? Like it’s hard?”

That one, of course, felt very Legally Blonde.

A lot of the replies had the same basic message: turning 50 is not something to dread. For many of the women in her comments, it looked more like something to claim proudly.

The replies made one thing pretty clear: plenty of women are more than ready to talk about aging a little differently. That same energy showed up in the reaction to Lindsay Lohan’s latest cover and the conversation around Margot Robbie’s new look.
