My Honest Review of Herbishh’s New Shampoo & Conditioner Bars (From Someone With Fine, Frizzy Hair)
If you have fine, thin hair that somehow manages to be both dry and frizzy, you already know the struggle. Add heat styling most days, and the painfully slow process of growing it out, and hair care becomes less “fun self-care moment” and more “please don’t snap off today.”
You can see what my hair currently looks like in the video below featuring Herbishh’s Color Shampoo.
That’s basically where I’m at right now. For the past couple of years, I’ve consistently used Herbishh’s thickening shampoo and conditioner, and I love them. They’ve helped keep my hair healthier while growing it out, and my hair feels stronger and fuller than it used to. So when Herbishh launched shampoo and conditioner bars, I was curious.

I’ve been testing the new bars for a couple of weeks now, specifically:
- Rice Water Shampoo & Conditioner Bars
- Castor Oil Shampoo Bar
- Coconut Oil Conditioner Bar
The short version? I like them. But I definitely have favorites, and there is a learning curve.
First Impressions: Not Your Average Hair Bars
Right out of the box, these don’t feel like the old-school, chalky shampoo bars you may be picturing. They smell great (clean, fresh, nothing overpowering), and I immediately appreciated the little details… especially that each bar is clearly stamped with an “S” or “C.” That sounds small, but when you’re half asleep in the shower, it sure is nice!

I also love that the conditioner bar is larger than the shampoo bar, because realistically, that’s what most of us go through faster anyway.
The Rice Water Bars: Smooth, Easy Styling… but Not My Favorite
Let’s start with the Rice Water Shampoo and Conditioner bars.
I totally understand why people love rice water for hair. These bars made my hair noticeably easier to style, and I could see how someone with thicker or more resilient hair would be obsessed.
The rice water bars made my hair feel strong and smooth while styling… but also a bit dry overall. Not straw-like, but not hydrated enough for my fine, already-dry hair. If your hair loves protein or you’re dealing with damage and breakage, I think these could be a great option. They just weren’t the best match for my current hair needs.
The Oil Bars: My Clear Favorite
This is where things got really good for me.
The Castor Oil Shampoo Bar, paired with the Coconut Oil Conditioner Bar, has been my favorite combo by far. My hair felt softer, more hydrated, and less frizzy, without feeling weighed down or greasy, which is always my biggest fear with oils and fine hair.
My ends especially felt happier, and that alone is a win when you’re heat styling regularly and trying not to sabotage hair growth progress.
The Learning Curve
If you’ve never used shampoo and conditioner bars before, here’s the biggest thing I learned:
You need way more conditioner than you think. And make sure your hair is thoroughly wet – almost dripping wet before applying the conditioner bar.
With liquid products, I’m usually good about shampoo and absolutely overdo it with conditioner. With the bars, it’s the opposite. Shampoo was easy. Conditioner took a minute to figure out.
What worked best for me:
- Use the conditioner bar directly on my ends
- Use gentle, steady pressure so the conditioner transfers properly to the hair.
- Apply more than I think I need
- Comb it through in the shower to distribute evenly
Once I started doing that, everything clicked. My hair felt softer, easier to detangle, and much more manageable once dry.
Longevity, Price & Sustainability
One thing that surprised me is how long these bars last. I’ve been using them consistently for a couple of weeks and have barely made a dent. Compared to liquid shampoo and conditioner, this feels like something that’s going to last a long time.
They’re also only $13 per bar, which feels very reasonable considering the longevity and quality.

I picked up a couple of draining soap dishes (pictured above) for my shower so the bars stay dry between uses, and it makes cleanup easier, too. Less mess, less clutter, fewer bottles. My brain feels better when I look in my shower now, haha.
Travel-Friendly (And Husband-Approved)
These bars are also a great option if:
- You’re trying to be more sustainable
- You want carry-on-friendly hair care
- You’re tired of leaky bottles in your suitcase
And a fun bonus: my husband is obsessed with them. He keeps saying bar shampoo “just makes more sense,” and he likes the way the Castor oil shampoo bar works too.

If you already like Herbishh products, these shampoo and conditioner bars are absolutely worth trying. Just know that which bar works best will depend on your hair.
For me:
- Rice Water bars = great styling, a bit drying
- Castor Oil Shampoo + Coconut Oil Conditioner = soft, hydrated, happy hair
Once you get past the small learning curve, they’re easy, effective, and practical — and they feel like a smart switch rather than a gimmick. I’ll definitely keep using the oil combo, especially while I’m growing my hair out and trying to keep breakage to a minimum.
And if nothing else? Anything that makes my hair routine simpler and keeps my hair looking decent gets a thumbs up from me.
