The 10 Greatest Movies of All Time, According to Data — Not Opinions
A new study analyzed ratings, awards, and box office earnings to crown the ultimate cinematic classic.

Movies have been inspiring audiences for more than a century. But what actually makes one the best?
Instead of relying on nostalgia or fan votes, the team at PixlParade’s Geek Viz analyzed hundreds of films to find out. They compared ratings, rankings, awards, and box office totals — weighting each category to build a fair score out of 100.

How the rankings were determined
Each movie’s final score reflected these weighted factors:
- Rotten Tomatoes (25% total weight): ranking on the “300 Best Movies of All Time” list and critic score.
- IMDb (25%): position on the Top 250 and average user rating.
- Metacritic (10%): critic and user scores combined.
- Box office (10%): inflation-adjusted global revenue.
- Academy Awards (10%): Best Picture wins, nominations, and total Oscar count.
- Golden Globes (10%): recognition for Best Motion Picture plus other wins and nominations.
- All awards combined (10%): wider industry honors factored in for balance.
Older titles benefited from lasting critical praise, while newer films gained ground with box office success and modern audience ratings. Metacritic carried less weight due to fewer entries overall.
