These 10 States Can’t Function Without Coffee

Two-thirds of American adults drink coffee every day, according to the National Coffee Association. But depending on where you live, that morning brew might be more essential than anywhere else.

A new report by SupremeWhip analyzed where caffeine plays the biggest role in daily life, ranking all 50 states using four key factors: average work hours, number of coffee shops per capita, rates of insufficient sleep, and Google searches for “coffee near me.” Combine long workweeks, limited shut-eye, and easy café access, and you get a clear picture of which states truly run on coffee.

Here’s where people are truly running on caffeine.

#10 Nevada

Between round-the-clock shifts in Las Vegas and Reno’s growing tech scene, Nevada’s residents are fueling long hours with plenty of coffee. Whether it’s a cold brew before an early casino shift or a late-night refill, caffeine keeps this state humming.

#9 Hawaii

You’d think paradise would mean relaxation, but Hawaiians actually lose a lot of sleep — and drink plenty of coffee to make up for it. The islands’ world-famous Kona beans don’t hurt either. A perfect blend of local pride and necessity.

#8 Tennessee

From Nashville’s creative grind to Memphis’s 9-to-5 hustle, Tennessee’s got a strong café game. Locals put in long hours, sleep less than they should, and clearly make up for it with a steady caffeine stream.

#7 Kentucky

Bourbon might be Kentucky’s claim to fame, but coffee is what gets the state moving in the morning. Many Kentuckians work long hours, and while the coffee culture is quieter than in big coastal cities, the loyalty runs deep.

Everything’s bigger in Texas — including the workdays. Between oil, tech, and manufacturing, Texans log some of the longest weekly hours in the country. Coffee’s not a luxury here; it’s fuel for the grind.

#3 Alaska

When winter lasts half the year, coffee becomes survival. Alaskans deal with brutal cold, long shifts, and long nights, so it’s no surprise they drink like their lives depend on it. Small roasters and local cafés thrive on that shared need for warmth and connection.
