These 6 wedding trends are everywhere right now, according to an expert

Weekend-long celebrations, bolder fashion, and more creative dining are shaping weddings this year.

Wedding trends have moved pretty far beyond choosing a color palette and deciding between a band or DJ.

This year, couples are putting more thought into the entire experience, including how long the celebration lasts and even how many outfits they wear throughout the day.

Nick Bramer, co-owner and marketing director at Country House Weddings, says many of the biggest trends he’s seeing have one thing in common: couples want weddings that feel more personal.

“Couples are blending tradition with innovation to create days that feel unapologetically ‘them,’” he said.

Here are six wedding trends showing up more often right now.

1. Weddings are becoming entire weekends

For many couples, the ceremony and reception are no longer the whole event.

Friday welcome dinners, Saturday weddings, and Sunday brunches are turning celebrations into full weekends, especially when guests are already traveling.

“People are no longer treating the wedding as a single event,” Bramer said. “They want to create a relaxed, joyful few days that bring friends and family together.”

It also fits with the growing interest in destination weddings. Martha’s Vineyard, for example, recently saw a sharp increase in wedding travel interest.

2. Sustainable weddings are looking a lot more luxurious

Eco-conscious weddings are becoming more polished than the rustic, stripped-back celebrations people may picture.

Couples are asking about locally sourced flowers, lower-waste menus, renewable energy, and décor that can be reused or replanted.

“Sustainability is now seen as elegant,” Bramer said.

3. Bold wedding colors are making a comeback

After several years of blush, beige, white, and sage green dominating wedding inspiration boards, richer colors are creeping back in.

Bramer expects shades like emerald green, royal blue, and deep terracotta to continue showing up in flowers, bridesmaid dresses, linens, and décor.

“Colour is back with confidence,” he said.

Personally, I’m ready for this one. A little more color can make a wedding feel far more memorable.

4. Technology is becoming part of the wedding day

Technology is playing a bigger role both before and during weddings.

Couples are using AI tools to help organize timelines and inspiration, while drone photography, 360-degree video, and livestreams are making it easier to document the day and include guests who can’t attend.

“Technology is helping couples share their day more widely than ever,” Bramer said. “It’s not replacing tradition, it’s enhancing it.”

Most couples aren’t replacing photographers or ceremonies with tech. But they are adding tools that make planning easier or help capture moments in a different way.

5. Wedding food is becoming entertainment

The traditional three-course wedding meal isn’t disappearing, but couples are getting much more creative with what guests eat throughout the day.

Grazing tables, live cooking stations, dessert bars, and late-night food are becoming part of the entertainment rather than just something served between speeches.

“Food is becoming entertainment in its own right,” Bramer said.

I’m especially in favor of late-night food. The last wedding I went to had a walking taco bar at 10:30 pm, and that was one of the best things I had ever experienced at a wedding. After several hours of dancing, it was amazing to have an easy-to-eat and tasty snack.

6. Wedding fashion is getting more dramatic

Wedding fashion is also becoming more playful, with detachable trains, capes, embellished veils, colorful suits, and outfit changes that give couples more room to experiment without committing to one look for the entire day.

“Fashion is a form of storytelling, and couples are using it to show who they are,” Bramer said.

There’s a practical side to this trend too. A dramatic train might look incredible during the ceremony but become considerably less appealing once you’re trying to dance in it for three hours.

Weddings are feeling less formulaic

The classic ceremony followed by dinner and dancing isn’t going anywhere.

What does seem to be changing is the expectation that every wedding needs to follow the same script. Couples are stretching celebrations across entire weekends, choosing louder colors, experimenting more with fashion, and putting extra thought into the experiences guests will remember.

Considering how expensive weddings have become, making the day feel more personal seems like one trend that probably isn’t going away anytime soon.
