Tripadvisor Says Americans Are Flocking to These 10 U.S. Destinations This Summer — Here’s the Full List

New data shows beach towns are dominating—but a few big cities are still holding their ground.

Summer travel this year is leaning heavily toward easy, familiar trips – and you can see it in the data. According to Tripadvisor’s latest Summer Travel Index, which looks at search and booking behavior for trips planned between June and August, beach destinations are dominating across the U.S., especially in Florida and along the East Coast.

What stood out to me is how practical these picks are. Most of these are places you can plan pretty quickly without a ton of back-and-forth. It’s very much a “this will work, just book it” kind of summer.

These rankings are based on real traveler activity, what people are actually searching for and booking, not just a curated list.

10. Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville is one of those places where you don’t need a packed itinerary to have a good time. Live music is everywhere, and it’s easy to bounce between spots without much planning.

It’s also a go-to for group trips, which keeps it busy pretty much all summer.

9. Clearwater, Florida

Clearwater is one of the easier Florida beach trips to plan, especially if you want calm water and a more relaxed pace. It’s popular with families, but it still works well for couples or friend trips if you’re mostly after beach time.

8. Seattle, Washington

Seattle makes a lot of sense once summer hits. The weather is milder, the waterfront is busy, and you’ve got easy access to parks and mountains if you want a break from the city. (This is a great road trip idea from Seattle if interested.)

It’s a good option if you want something different from the typical beach trip without overcomplicating things.

7. Panama City Beach, Florida

Panama City Beach is the kind of Florida trip where the beach does most of the work. The water is usually the big selling point here, and there are plenty of condo rentals, casual seafood spots, and kid-friendly attractions nearby.

It’s also a popular pick for travelers who want a Florida beach trip without paying Key West or Naples prices.

6. Key West, Florida

Key West takes a little more effort to get to, but it feels different from the rest of Florida once you’re there. The streets are colorful, the pace is slower, and there’s more to do beyond just sitting on the beach.

It’s a good fit if you want something that still feels like a getaway, not just a quick beach trip. You’ll also find a lot of cool vacation rentals here.

5. Ocean City, Maryland

Ocean City is a classic East Coast summer trip….boardwalk, beach snacks, arcades, and a steady stream of things to do once you’re off the sand.

A lot of people grew up going here, and that repeat-visit factor shows in how consistently it ranks.

4. Las Vegas, Nevada

Vegas doesn’t slow down just because it’s summer. Pool scenes, shows, and restaurants keep it busy, even with the heat.

It’s also one of those places where people plan specific things ahead of time, not just the trip itself.

3. Chicago, Illinois

Chicago really shows off in the summer. The lakefront is packed, patios are full, and there’s always something going on.

Living in Wisconsin, this one doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s an easy trip that still feels like you got away. I usually end up in Chicago a few times myself each summer, as there are so many fun things to do here.

2. New York City, New York

New York stays busy year-round, but summer adds more outdoor events, rooftop spots, and neighborhoods that are easier to explore on foot.

It’s also one of the top places people are booking walking tours and neighborhood-focused experiences right now.

MYRTLE BEACH SOUTH CAROLINA JUNE 29 2016: SkyWheel when it opened on 20 May 2011 it was the second-tallest extant Ferris wheel in North America, after the Texas Star in Dallas

1. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach is a very specific kind of summer vacation: oceanfront hotels, seafood buffets, outlet shopping, mini golf, and plenty for families to do after the beach.

It’s not everyone’s favorite beach town, but it makes sense as the top pick. For travelers who want an easy, activity-heavy beach trip without spending resort-island money, Myrtle Beach is hard to beat. It’s also a great place to visit if you have teenagers on summer break!
