Why Invest in Good Travel Pants?

Travel pants are specifically designed to meet the unique demands of travelers. They offer a perfect blend of style, comfort, and functionality, making them a must-have item in any man’s wardrobe. Zac only wears travel pants now, whether he’s working around the house or giving a presentation at work.

Here are some more reasons why investing in a good pair of travel pants is worth it:

1. Comfort on the Go

Traveling can be exhausting, especially if you’re constantly on the move. With travel pants, you’ll experience a whole new level of comfort. These pants are usually made from stretchy materials that allow for unrestricted movement, ensuring you stay comfortable throughout your journey. (All of Zac’s favorite pants are stretchy.)

2. Versatility for Any Occasion

One of the biggest advantages of travel pants is their versatility. They are designed to seamlessly transition from casual to formal settings, making them suitable for a wide range of occasions. From exploring the streets of a foreign city to attending a business meeting, travel pants have got you covered.

3. Quick-drying and Wrinkle-Resistant

Travel pants are often made from quick-drying and wrinkle-resistant fabrics. This means you can easily wash them on the go and have them ready to wear in no time. Plus, their wrinkle-resistant properties ensure you always look put together, even after hours of sitting on a plane.

4. Ample Storage Options

Most travel pants come with multiple pockets, allowing you to safely store your essentials while on the move. Look for pants with deep pockets that can hold your phone, wallet, and keys securely. Some even come with hidden zippered pockets for added security.

Now that you understand the benefits of travel pants let’s take a look at our top picks for the best travel pants for men in 2024.

Overall Best Men’s Travel Pants: Eddie Bauer Men’s Horizon Guide Chino Pants

The Eddie Bauer Horizon Guide Chino Pants take the crown for the best overall men’s travel pants in Zac’s book. He’s had them for nearly seven years now and has used them for everything from dinner at all-inclusive resorts to hiking in Peru, and he loves wearing them to work as well.

The reason he loves these pants so much is because they excel in both form and function, offering a stylish and comfortable option for any adventure. They’re made from a blend of nylon and spandex and provide excellent stretch and durability. These pants are also relatively wrinkle-resistant (at least, we’ve never felt the need to iron them). The sizing with these pants is also true-to-size, so Zac can just order his normal-size pants in them with no issues.

One of the standout features of the Horizon Guide Pants is that they feature a Durable Water-repellent (DWR) finish, making them resistant to light rain and spills.

Zac says he wishes they had a few more pockets for traveling, though, other pants on this list have a ton of pockets, which he finds useful. He also wishes the waist were a bit stretchier with these.

However, in terms of style, the Horizon Guide Chino Pants strike the perfect balance between casual and formal. They can be dressed up or down, making them suitable for a variety of occasions. Whether you’re hiking through a lush forest or exploring a bustling city, these pants will keep you comfortable and looking stylish.

If you need one “go-to” pair of travel pants in your collection – these Eddie Bauer Horizon Guide Chinos pants are it! (Zac uses them in the “Carbon” color.)

Best Hiking Pants: Kühl Renegade Convertible Pants

Kühl Renegade Convertible Pants are a top choice for men’s hiking travel pants due to their exceptional versatility and practicality. Zac loves their convertible design, allowing them to transition from pants to shorts easily. This feature is ideal for travelers facing varied climates or looking to pack light without sacrificing functionality. (Because of this, these were the only pants Zac packed the last time we were in Peru.)

Additionally, their stretchy, durable fabric ensures both comfort and resilience, making them great for a range of activities from hiking to urban exploration. Zac says these are also true to size, which makes for easy shopping. Plus, they have a ton of usable pockets.

The durability of KUHL Renegade Pants is another reason Zac loves them. They are designed to be abrasion-resistant, ensuring longevity through various adventures (and also make for great pants to wear for yard work). Their functionality is enhanced with multiple, secure pockets, perfect for storing essential items like passports and phones. Plus, they are made with KUHL DURALUX fabric with a durable water repellent (DWR).

Despite their practicality, these pants maintain a style that fits well in both outdoor and urban settings. The relaxed fit further adds to their appeal, providing comfort during long journeys. This blend of durability, functionality, and style makes them Zac’s favored choice for hiking and travel pants.

Best Budget Men’s Travel Pants: Copper & Oak Elastic File Tech Jogger Pants for Men

If you’re on a budget but still want a comfortable pair of travel pants, look no further than the Copper & Oak Elastic File Tech Jogger Pants for Men. These pants offer great value for money without compromising on quality or style. Made from a blend of rayon, nylon, and spandex, they provide a comfortable and stretchy fit. Zac says these are the most comfortable pants he owns, and he would like a pair in every color, please. (He currently owns them in black and grey.)

They feature an elastic drawstring waistband which makes them incredibly comfortable for long-haul flights, or long days of sightseeing. Zac also likes to wear them when he is working his side business (flying drones with Wiscopter).

The only thing Zac says he would change about these pants is having more pockets. He doesn’t like that the front pockets are all that are useable and that they do not have back pockets.

Note: Zac bought these pants in-store at Glik’s in Minocqua, Wisconsin last year. They do have some sizes available on their website, but they are not fully stocked. Shopping in-store may be best, or reaching out directly to the Copper and Oak team might be better.

Best Work Travel Pants: Eddie Bauer Men’s Flex Wrinkle-Resistant Sport Chinos – Classic

For those who prefer a classic chino style, the Eddie Bauer Men’s Flex Wrinkle-Resistant Sport Chinoss is the perfect choice. Made from a blend of cotton, polyester, and spandex, these pants offer a comfortable and wrinkle-free option for your travels. They are also highly durable. Zac has had his pants for more than 5 years now, and they still look fantastic. These are his go-to pants for business travel, although he’s also used them for hiking and landscaping in our yard!

He says the best part about these travel pants, though, is that they feature an elastic waistband. So, they are comfortable for long days at the office and long flights home.

They come with plenty of hidden pocket options, allowing you to securely store your belongings. Zac also likes that he can tuck his shirts in these and they still look nice.

These are a heavier fabric than the rest of the men’s travel pants listed here. They’re great for cooler weather and to wear during winter.

Overall, the Eddie Bauer Men’s Flex Wrinkle-Resistant Sport Chinos offer a sophisticated look with the functionality required for travel. Whether you’re strolling through a museum or attending a business meeting, these pants will keep you looking sharp and feeling comfortable.

Best Lightweight Pants: Free Fly

If you want the most breathable, lightweight travel pants out there, the Breeze Pants are your go-to choice. These pants offer a sleek and modern look that can easily pass for everyday wear in any city and also work great for outdoor adventures like boating and fishing. Made from a blend of nylon and elastane, they provide excellent mobility and durability.

The Breeze Pants are lightweight and breathable, making them perfect for warm climates. Zac says these are by far the lightest pants on this list. They dry very quickly and are super breathable. However, it’s worth noting that the single security pocket may be limiting for some travelers who require more storage options.

These pants also have a very stretchy waist, which makes them very comfortable to wear on long flights. (Zac and I are both putting our Breeze Pants to the test next week on our very long journey to Thailand, which includes a 12+ hour flight into Tokyo.)

With their fantastic fit and construction, the Breeze Pants offer the perfect balance of style and functionality. Whether you’re exploring hidden alleyways, enjoying a local café, or heading out on the water, these pants will keep you looking like a true insider and comfortable while doing so.

However, while Zac likes these pants, he says the pockets are unnecessarily deep (like to your knees). So that is something to keep in mind. He also says the waistband could be stretchier on these.

If you’re concerned about the safety of your belongings while traveling, SCOTTeVEST pants are the perfect choice. With their secure pockets and durable construction, you can explore with peace of mind.

Prana’s ethical approach to manufacturing, prioritizing sustainability, adds a layer of value for those who prefer to make environmentally responsible choices. Nicest Looking Hiking Pants: Men’s Holmen 5 Pocket Pants by Helly Hansen

The Helly Hansen Men’s Holmen 5 Pocket Pants are a unique blend of style and functionality. These pants break away from the conventional hiking pant design and have a more refined and contemporary look. Zac wears his hiking, sightseeing, and sometimes even to the office.

What really sets the Holmen 5 Pocket Pants apart is their successful integration of function with fashion. Helly Hansen’s commitment to quality is evident in the choice of materials that are both durable and comfortable, striking a balance suitable for rigorous outdoor activities yet soft enough for everyday wear.

Unlike many outdoor pants that have conspicuous functional features, these pants subtly incorporate practical elements like pockets, maintaining a streamlined and uncluttered appearance. This subtlety in design, combined with the brand’s reputation for high-quality outdoor wear, elevates these pants above others in terms of aesthetics. (Zac has had his Helly Hansen pants since 2018, and they still look great.)

While the sleek design is a positive, Zac says the tight fit can get rather uncomfortable at times. They also aren’t the most flattering if you end up gaining weight.

Please note: Zac purchased his more than 6 years ago, and the khaki color is no longer available. Amazon also has these pants, and they come in a couple extra colors.
