The Cheapest Beach Vacations in the U.S., According to New Data

If you’ve written off beach vacations as “too expensive,” the numbers say otherwise. A new analysis from Beach.com crunched flight prices, hotels, vacation rentals, dining costs, and everyday expenses across the 100 largest U.S. cities within 25 miles of a beach, and the results are surprising.

Some of the most affordable beach getaways aren’t flashy resort towns or influencer favorites. They’re practical, overlooked, and, most importantly, budget-friendly year-round.

Here’s where travelers can get the most beach for their money this year.

The Most Affordable Beach Vacations Overall

1. Pasadena

Pasadena, Texas, ranked #1 overall as the most affordable beach vacation in the country. It stood out for having some of the cheapest airfare, hotel, and vacation rental rates in the entire study. While it’s not the most walkable city, the savings on flights and lodging more than make up for it—especially for travelers flying in.

2. Hialeah

Just outside Miami, Hialeah offers beach access without Miami prices. A two-night vacation rental for two averaged just $343, making it the cheapest small city for rentals in the study. It also scored well for walkability, which helps keep transportation costs low.

3. Pearland

Pearland, Texas, delivered one of the lowest total trip costs of all cities analyzed. Dining costs averaged just $111 for a weekend, and airfare tied for the cheapest among small cities. All in, it had the lowest estimated total cost for a two-person weekend vacation rental stay.

The Cheapest Large U.S. Cities for Beach Trips

Big cities don’t usually scream “budget,” but a few coastal metros proved otherwise.

1. Baltimore

Baltimore ranked as the most affordable large beach city in the U.S. It placed near the top for dining, airfare, and hotel rates, with an estimated $1,817 total (everything all tallied up) for a two-person weekend hotel stay.

2. Houston

Houston delivered consistently low costs across nearly every category—cheap flights, affordable hotels, and low dining expenses. Whether staying in a hotel or vacation rental, Houston had one of the lowest total estimated trip costs among large cities.

3. Oakland

Oakland didn’t top any single category, but its balanced affordability earned it a top-three spot. It also had some of the cheapest airfare among large cities, making it a rare budget-friendly option for a California beach escape.

California’s Best Budget Beach Picks

California usually comes with sticker shock, but a few cities stood out:

  • Long Beach had the cheapest airfare in the entire study, averaging $902 for two round-trip tickets.
  • San Francisco ranked highest for walkability, which can significantly cut transportation costs for travelers who don’t need a car.

Affordable Beach Vacations on the Great Lakes

You don’t need an ocean to have a beach vacation (but you will have to wait for summer to enjoy the beach here!).

1. Milwaukee

Milwaukee topped the list for lake beach affordability, with the cheapest lakeside dining costs and the lowest estimated total trip cost for a weekend hotel stay. Its Lake Michigan beaches make it a strong alternative to coastal destinations.

2. Green Bay

Green Bay had the cheapest hotel rates among lake towns, though airfare and seasonal demand (especially during Packers games) can drive prices up. There are also plenty of fun things to do in Green Bay.

Honorable mentions:

  • Buffalo for affordable airfare
  • Chicago for top-tier walkability that helps cut local transportation costs

Why These Beach Trips Stay Affordable

What sets these destinations apart isn’t just low prices—it’s consistency. The study adjusted for seasonal price swings, meaning these places stay relatively affordable throughout the year, not just during off-peak months.

Airfare made up the largest share of total trip costs, followed by lodging and walkability. Cities with cheap flights, reliable hotel pricing, and easy-to-navigate neighborhoods came out on top.

The Bottom Line

A beach vacation in 2026 doesn’t have to wreck your budget. Whether you’re eyeing the Gulf Coast, the Great Lakes, or a pared-down California escape, the data shows there are plenty of places where sun, sand, and savings can coexist.

If affordability is a priority this year, travelers may also want to look at where their dollar stretches furthest beyond beach trips. Recent data also highlights which winter destinations are offering surprisingly good value—and the cheapest places to fly in the U.S. in 2026, which can make or break a budget-friendly getaway.
