Tripadvisor Just Named the 10 Best Honeymoon Destinations in the World — and #1 Isn’t the Maldives

From private beaches to wine country escapes, these are the romantic trips travelers rave about after they get home.

If you’re planning a honeymoon, you don’t need another list that’s basically just “go somewhere pretty.” You need the places that couples are raving about after they’ve been, the ones that feel romantic in real life, not just in a brochure.

That’s what Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards “Best of the Best” rankings aim to capture. The title is based on a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period, and Tripadvisor says fewer than 1% of its roughly 8 million listings make the cut.

10. Antigua

Antigua is a “choose your own honeymoon pace” kind of place. You can do lively beaches with plenty going on, then disappear to a quiet cove the next day. When you want a break from the sand, it’s easy to tack on a boat outing or a quick local tour.

9. Watamu, Kenya

Watamu feels intimate without feeling sleepy. It’s a strong pick if you want soft beaches and warm water, but you’re also hoping for something that isn’t the same resort strip everyone else is posting. It has an easy, low-pressure rhythm that suits honeymoon energy.

There are also a lot of amazing things you can do while in Kenya. I highly recommend visiting an area like Samburu for a romantic safari (and stay with a Saruni property!) and then ending in Watamu for some relaxation.

8. Positano, Italy

Positano is built for romance — the views, the steep little streets, the feeling that you’re in a movie even when you’re just grabbing coffee. It’s also a practical home base if you want to get out on the water or explore nearby towns without moving hotels.

7. Napa, United States

If you want a honeymoon that’s more cozy than tropical, Napa makes a lot of sense. It’s food-and-wine focused, it’s easy to pace yourself, and it naturally lends itself to slow mornings and long dinners. It’s romantic without requiring a complicated itinerary.

6. Hue, Vietnam

Hue is for couples who want history and atmosphere more than nonstop beach time. The setting along the Perfume River gives it a softer feel, and the sightseeing leans cultural rather than resorty. It’s a solid option if you like your trips to have depth.

5. Galle, Sri Lanka

Galle has that rare combination of coastal scenery and real character. The old fort area is made for wandering, with shops, cafés, and architecture that makes a simple walk feel like an activity. It’s romantic in a quieter, more textured way.

4. St. Lucia

St. Lucia is a classic honeymoon destination that still feels dramatic when you arrive. Between the Pitons, the volcanic landscapes, and the beaches, it’s the kind of place where you can do “wow” days and then do nothing the next day. It works for couples who want relaxation but don’t want to be bored.

3. Maldives

The Maldives is still the postcard honeymoon for a reason. If your dream is privacy, water you can’t stop staring at, and resort stays that feel like a splurge, this is it. It’s not the most flexible destination, but it’s extremely good at what it does.

2. Mauritius

Mauritius is the honeymoon pick for people who want beach time but also want to leave the resort and feel like they’re somewhere real. It’s known for its beautiful coastline, a lively capital, and plenty of activities if you get restless. It tends to surprise people in a good way.

1. Bali, Indonesia

Bali landing at #1 tracks with how many different honeymoons it can be. You can do beaches, jungle stays, spa days, temples, and food that’s worth building a day around. It’s also one of those places where couples can splurge in ways that feel “honeymoon-level” without automatically turning the whole trip into a financial event. (This article has some great Bali tips to know before you go.)
