This Country Swears More Than Any Other Country in the World — Here’s Why It Makes Sense
A new study says one nation drops 21 curse words a day — and surprisingly, it might not be a bad thing.

A new global study confirms what many might suspect: one country has turned swearing into an art form. Americans now officially top the charts for using the most curse words — averaging 21 swears a day, according to research by Casino Buddies.
The study analyzed YouTube comments, search trends, and even popular song lyrics across 11 nations to measure how often people swear online. The United States came out on top, with a “swearing commonality score” of 0.875, far ahead of Italy and France.
That “score” reflects how frequently curse words appeared across online platforms in each country — the higher the number, the more often people swear compared to the global average. In other words, Americans don’t just curse more than anyone else; they do it a lot more.
But before anyone clutches their pearls, researchers say this doesn’t necessarily mean Americans are angrier than everyone else. In the U.S., cursing can be playful, humorous, and weirdly creative. From the casual “damn” to regionally beloved slang, Americans have built a shared language that can sound aggressive one moment and affectionate the next.
“Americans swear more than anyone else in the world,” says Jamie Bungaree, Head of Casino Games at Casino Buddies. “But swearing in the U.S. isn’t always about anger. It can be expressive, funny, and even bonding. We celebrate how Americans use colorful language to connect and emphasize emotion.”

While Americans dominate the list, every country has its own flavor of profanity. Italians lean into blasphemous phrases, the French turn swearing into poetry, and the British deliver theirs with an unmatched sense of timing. But Americans? We tend to use it all. It’s a messy, passionate mix that reflects both frustration and flair.
Studies even suggest that dropping the occasional four-letter word can relieve stress and dull pain. Turns out, venting out loud might be one of the few universal languages left.
