12 years!! Holy moly, where has the time gone? It’s crazy to think Have Clothes, Will Travel has been around for over a decade now…and going strong!

Every year, I like to take this time to thank each and every one of you for following and reading Have Clothes, Will Travel. Without you, this blog would not be possible. I can’t thank you all enough for reading, sharing, and interacting with my content. It means the world to me, and this yearly giveaway is just a small way of showing my appreciation to you all.

YouTube is Going Strong!

One of the things I’m most proud of this year is finally getting consistent on YouTube! I’ve been uploading a new video every 2 weeks like clockwork, on Sundays. If you haven’t subscribed yet, now’s a great time to catch up on everything I’ve been sharing there.

This Year’s Adventures

This year kicked off with the trip of a lifetime to Rwanda, and if you follow along, you know it turned into some of my favorite storytelling all year (I even wrote a couple of deep-dive posts about it, which you can find here and here).

I went in thinking gorilla trekking would be a fairly easy, short hike. It was not. What was supposed to be an “easy” trek turned into a seven-plus-hour trudge through mud and thorny plants, made even more interesting by the fact that I’d picked up a stomach bug from brushing my teeth with tap water at the lodge.

Add in a smashed camera, a serious sunburn, and one very memorable run-in with a stinging nettle plant, and let’s just say I made a lot of rookie mistakes. But then a baby gorilla walked right up to me, and every bit of the misery instantly became worth it. Easily a top-five life moment.

I also learned the hard way (and the fun way) that Rwanda is so much more than gorilla trekking. I did chimp trekking too, which turned out to be a completely different beast — way faster-paced, with a lot more scrambling to keep up as the chimps moved through the trees.

I also spent time at Akagera National Park on safari, where I managed to spot three leopards, watched elephants play in the water on a boat safari, and had the whole park feel incredibly uncrowded compared to safaris I’ve done in Kenya.

After a trip that big, I found myself staying a lot closer to home for the rest of the year, and honestly, I loved that too. I did some wonderful exploring right here in Wisconsin, including a trip to Elkhart Lake, which was such a charming little getaway. I also made it out to Chicago recently (stay tuned for an updated Chicago post soon!)

Plus, I got to explore some incredible cities along the Ohio River in Indiana, such as Madison… which I absolutely loved!

Coming up shortly, I’m headed to Nashville — I can’t wait to share that one with you all! And I will also be taking a fun road trip through Nevada, which will be such a great change of pace from my usual travel style.

It’s been a year of variety to see the least… big, bucket-list international travel balanced with slower, closer-to-home adventures, and I’ve loved both sides of it.
