These Are the 10 Best U.S. Destinations for 2026, According to Tripadvisor Travelers

Tripadvisor just announced its first Travelers’ Choice Awards category for 2026: Best of the Best Destinations, which highlights places that earned standout traveler reviews over the past year.

If you’re looking for trip ideas that come with a serious “people actually loved it here” stamp of approval, this list is basically a shortcut. Here are Tripadvisor’s top U.S. destinations for 2026, counting down from #10 to #1.

10. Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is one of those cities that makes you feel productive just by walking around it. The Freedom Trail is the classic first-timer move, but the real fun is ducking into museums, wandering the North End, and catching a Red Sox game if you can swing it. Boston has a ton of fun things to do for every type of traveler!

9. Washington, D.C.

D.C. is stacked with big-name sights, but what makes it click is how much you can do without spending much—especially around the National Mall. Add in neighborhoods with real personality (hello, Georgetown) and a dining scene that keeps leveling up, and it’s easy to see why travelers keep coming back.

8. Key West, Florida

Key West is sunshine, salt air, and a “why not?” vibe in city form. People come for the nightlife and sunsets, then stay for the history (and yes, the Hemingway factor does make ordering that drink feel weirdly educational).

7. Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is the kind of place that wins you over slowly, with great food, gorgeous streets, and enough history that you’ll keep pausing mid-walk to read plaques. Travelers also rave about the hospitality here, and honestly, it’s one of the city’s superpowers. Charleston also has some very beautiful beaches!

6. Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is a dream if you like your vacations with equal parts eating and exploring. You can spend the day doing architecture tours and museum time, then go all-in on the food scene (from deep-dish debates to true bucket-list restaurants). There’s a ton of fun stuff to do in Chicago for everyone!

5. New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is lively without feeling frantic…like it knows it’s iconic and doesn’t have to prove it. Music spills out onto the street, the neighborhoods are beautiful, and the city’s mix of cultures shows up everywhere, especially in the food. From tarot card readings to food tours and listening to live jazz, you’ll never be bored in NOLA.

4. Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville earns its “Music City” reputation the second you step outside. Live music is basically constant, but it’s not just honky-tonks, there’s art, history, and a restaurant scene that’s gotten seriously impressive.

3. O‘ahu, Hawaii

O‘ahu is a “do a little of everything” destination, beach days, hikes, and cultural stops all in the same trip. Waikiki and Diamond Head are the obvious hits, but travelers also love getting out a bit and exploring beyond the most crowded areas.

2. Las Vegas, Nevada

Vegas is on this list because it’s basically built for adult fun with shows, food, nightlife, and the kind of people-watching you can’t recreate anywhere else. And since the city runs on a 24/7 schedule, you can do the “nightlife” thing at… pretty much any hour you feel like.

1. New York City, New York

New York City took the top spot again, and that checks out—there’s nowhere else in the U.S. with this much packed into one place. First trip? Go full tourist with the Statue of Liberty, museums, and Times Square. After that, the best version of NYC is picking one neighborhood and going deep—tiny bars, old-school delis, shops you’d never find on purpose, and the kind of walking-around magic that makes you feel like you’re in a movie.
