The 10 European Dream Destinations Americans Are Searching for Most in 2025
For many Americans, Europe still tops the travel wish list, and new research shows exactly where we’re dreaming of heading first.
According to a study by SopranoVillas, which analyzed Google searches across the U.S. from March 2024 to February 2025, researchers tracked nearly 3,000 travel-related keywords, from “flights to Paris” to “hotels in Santorini,” to calculate average monthly search volumes for each country.
The final ranking reflects which European countries Americans search for the most overall, a pretty good indicator of where we’re planning (or at least daydreaming about) our next big getaway.
10. Ireland – 354,313 monthly searches
Between Dublin’s cozy pubs, the Cliffs of Moher, and fairytale castles like Ashford and Dromoland, Ireland offers a mix of warmth and wild beauty that clearly resonates with American travelers. “Dublin hotels” alone pulled over 100,000 searches a month — proof that many are ready to toast with a proper pint of Guinness. (This is a great Ireland road trip itinerary if you’re planning your own trip!)

9. Netherlands – 366,495 monthly searches
Amsterdam remains the star attraction, with its canals, tulip markets, and museums dedicated to Van Gogh and Anne Frank. Americans seem to love browsing “Amsterdam hotels,” which ranks among the top 10 most-searched travel phrases in the country.

8. Germany – 438,396 monthly searches
From beer gardens in Munich to Berlin’s street art scene, Germany offers history, culture, and festival energy in equal measure. Search interest peaks around major cities, with “Munich hotels” and “Berlin flights” leading the pack.

7. Switzerland – 470,335 monthly searches
Snow-dusted peaks, shimmering lakes, and chocolate that ruins you for anything else — Switzerland’s perfection almost feels unfair. “Zurich hotels” and “Lake Como hotels” (just across the border) both rank high in American search data.

6. Portugal – 477,715 monthly searches
Portugal’s popularity has soared lately, thanks to affordable prices and photogenic cities like Lisbon and Porto. “Lisbon hotels” draws more than 114,000 monthly searches alone, showing that Americans are catching on to this Iberian gem.
5. Greece – 612,265 monthly searches
From Santorini’s blue-and-white cliffside views to Athens’ timeless ruins, Greece is a longtime favorite for sun-seekers and history buffs alike. “Athens Greece hotels” and “Santorini” were among the most-searched phrases — proof that the allure of the Aegean never fades. (This is a great itinerary for Greece if you’re planning your own trip!)

4. England – 802,034 monthly searches
London is officially the most-searched city in all of Europe, with “London hotels” topping 273,000 monthly searches and “London weather” close behind. Whether it’s the draw of Buckingham Palace, West End shows, or afternoon tea, the U.K. continues to rule.

3. France – 926,496 monthly searches
No surprise here — Americans can’t get enough of France. “Paris hotels” and “Paris weather” both land in the top ten search terms nationwide. Between the City of Light, the lavender fields of Provence, and the Riviera’s glam coastline, France continues to enchant.

2. Spain – 1,023,265 monthly searches
Spain’s irresistible mix of beach life, tapas, and world-class architecture keeps travelers coming back. Barcelona dominates search traffic with more than 260,000 monthly queries for “Barcelona hotels” — and nearly 400,000 searches for the city itself.

1. Italy – 1,541,963 monthly searches
Italy doesn’t just win — it dominates. With Venice, Rome, and Florence all ranking among the most-searched cities in Europe, Americans clearly can’t get enough of la dolce vita. “Venice Italy hotels” alone racks up over 133,000 searches a month. Whether it’s pasta, art, or romance you’re chasing, Italy stays on top for a reason.
