Airfare Is Down as Much as 60% for Fall 2025 — Here Are the 10 Best International Trips to Book Now

Cheaper flights, smaller crowds, perfect weather — here’s where to book now.

If summer travel felt impossible with its record prices and wall-to-wall crowds, fall is the reset button.

According to new data from Dollar Flight Club, airfare is finally cooling off, with some international routes down as much as 60% compared to June. That kind of savings means you can plan a bucket-list getaway without blowing your budget. What’s even better is that shoulder season comes with smaller crowds, friendlier weather, and the chance to experience cities at a slower pace.

Here are 10 international spots where your money will stretch the furthest this fall.

10. Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon’s pastel-painted streets and sweeping viewpoints are even more enjoyable when you’re not elbowing through tour groups. Round-trip fares are falling fast, making it one of the cheapest European capitals to reach right now. A tram ride through Alfama or a day trip to Sintra’s fairytale palaces feels far more relaxed in September and October.

9. Cartagena, Colombia

This travel gem blends colonial history with vibrant nightlife, and this fall, airfare is dropping by hundreds. With the cruise crowds gone, you can actually hear the street musicians in Getsemaní and find a table at sunset bars overlooking the sea. A quick flight also means it’s an easy long-weekend getaway if you’re short on vacation days.

8. Rome, Italy

The Eternal City feels less frantic in fall, and the flight prices reflect it. September and October bring comfortable days for exploring ruins and evenings perfect for al fresco dining in Trastevere. You’ll still see crowds around the Colosseum and Vatican, but lines are shorter, hotels are cheaper, and hearty Roman pastas taste even better when the weather cools. If you’re mapping out a visit, I’ve shared my favorite ways to experience both Rome and the Vatican.

7. Paris, France

Paris in autumn is cinematic, the Seine lined with golden leaves, cozy cafés buzzing, and museums refreshingly uncrowded. Airfare dips are finally giving travelers a break so that you can treat yourself to that extra bottle of Bordeaux. It’s also fashion week season, which means people-watching is at its peak and the city has an extra spark of energy.

6. Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok’s airfare is down nearly 30% this fall, making it one of the best long-haul values. Rain showers taper off toward October, leaving more time to explore floating markets, rooftop bars, and gilded temples. Pair it with a quick hop to Chiang Mai or Phuket (and be sure to stay at this amazing White Lotus dupe) and you’ve got a Southeast Asia adventure for less than you’d pay just two months ago. I’ve rounded up things to do in Thailand that can help you plan a trip beyond the basics.

5. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona cools down in both temperature and price once the summer crowds retreat. Airfare drops open the door to enjoy Gaudí’s surreal architecture at a slower pace and dig into tapas without waiting for a table. If you time it right, you can catch local festivals like La Mercè in September, where the city throws free concerts and fireworks.

4. Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico’s capital is one of the easiest (and cheapest) international trips this fall, with flights coming in far lower than summer peaks. Beyond the savings, October brings mild weather and the lead-up to Día de los Muertos, when the city fills with color and tradition. Between the street tacos and world-class museums, it’s hard to believe how affordable it is compared to Europe.

3. Tokyo, Japan

Japan was slammed with tourists earlier this year, but fall offers a reprieve. Flights are more affordable, and the crisp weather sets the stage for temple visits, neon-lit nights, and leaf-peeping in city parks. If you’ve been waiting to splurge on sushi counters or an onsen stay, the money you save on airfare helps balance the budget. I’ve also shared some surprising things about Japan that travelers don’t always expect on their first trip.

2. London, England

London flights are trending down sharply after the summer surge, and the city feels cozier as pubs and parks shift into autumn mode. Kew Gardens turns into a fall wonderland, and the theater season heats up in the West End. With London as a major hub, you can also tack on a budget flight to elsewhere in Europe without breaking the bank.

1. Athens, Greece

Athens is seeing some of the steepest airfare corrections, making it one of the smartest gateways into Europe right now. The Acropolis and Plaka are far calmer than in July, yet the Greek islands are still warm enough for a late-season beach escape. You’ll catch both cultural highlights and seaside downtime—at prices that finally feel reasonable again. I’ve put together both a 2-day Athens itinerary for short stays and a 10-day Greece itinerary if you want to stretch the trip further. Plus, a packing guide for Greece at this time of year.

I’m not surprised with tariffs and the economy issues.
